As our tribute to the official start of summer we thought that we would bring something "cool" to your attention, the Diddy Riese Ice Cream Sandwich. Hey, it's a sandwich, just not in the traditional sense.

The Diddy Riese Ice Cream Sanwich substitues delicious cookies instead of a bread or bun and premium ice cream instead of beef, pork, cheese, etc.

Since 1983 Diddy Riese has been a fixture in Westwood (very near UCLA) serving fabulous ice cream sandwiches in what seems like an infinite amount of combinations. You start with selecting from their ten different cookie offerings including chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, white chocolate macademia, double chocolate with nuts, oh, you get the idea. You can even select two different flavors of cookies, one for the top of your sandwich and a different one for the bottom.

Paseo's has created quite a following, regulars insist that the Cuban Roast sandwich is a religious experience, or a craving that is experienced day after day. The love goes on and on.

Everyone agrees that the Cuban Roast is one messy sandwich. It starts with a toasted baguette slathered with aioli (mayo), cilantro, pickled jalapenos, romaine lettuce, carmelized onions, and of course, the pork shoulder that has been marinaded in Paseo's secret reciple and slow roasted until it falls off the bone in succulent morsels. Beware the term "slathered" with aioli mayo is a caution, let's just say it is applied very, very, very liberally and as a result the sandwich does become slippery.

My boyfriend just recently turned me on to this place... especially the #19 sandwich. It's unbelievable, the best pastrami in the whole world, hand sliced, with swiss cheese, cole slaw and topped with Russian dressing. Yummy indeed. And the bread is out of this world. It's the full package.

LA has ton's of deli's but the pastrami at Langer's seems to leave all the others in the dust. Thick hand cut slices sure is better than the standard deli pastrami, don't even think about the pre-packaged stuff at the grocery store.
