Not so long ago it was in vogue for restaurants to present healthy meals to their customers. The low carb craze put a temporary crimp in donut and bagel sales. The Atkin's Diet was approved by the beef industry, and so on.

My, how things have changed. Now we are seeing more and more gluttonous products. Denny’s has just launched a new item on their $2-4-6-8 Value Menu. It’s the Fried Cheese Melt. This concoction is a grilled cheese sandwich with a twist. Four fried mozzarella sticks and melted American cheese grilled between two slices of sourdough bread. Served with wavy-cut French fries and a side of marinara sauce.

Usually we write about specific sandwiches or food items, but I wanted to share my experience at the opening of a brand new Chick-Fil-A restaurant.

We are all familiar with the famous Chick-Fil-A sandwiches, they enjoy quite a cult following. In fact, the day prior to opening there were hundreds of people camped out in the Chick-Fil-A parking lot.* The first 100 that arrived won coupons for free "chickin" for a year. The staff at Chick-Fil-A set up games and activities to keep everyone occupied while the wait for the official grand opening went on.

Burger King's BK WHOPPER Bar in New York City is producing their own supersized specialty hamburger, pizza, sandwich. Called the NY Pizza Burger it contains four FOUR Whopper hamburger patties, pepperoni, mozzarella cheese and marinara sauce, all on a 9-and-a-half inch bun.

Fast food restaurants are trying to out-do each other with making huge combinations of items and putting them in sandwich form. Need we mention KFC's Double Down Chicken Sandwich or Sonic's Foot-Long Coney Dog, or even Carl's Jr's Foot-Long Cheeseburger.

Visiting Winslow's Home is like visiting and enjoying a meal in your aunt's house. However, depending on if your aunt is a superstar or not the food at Winslow's Home may be better! It is a wonderful place with a very relaxing feel.

The atmosphere is not the only thing that is warm, so is Winslow's Home's take on a beef brisket sandwich. This is not a BBQ sandich, rather a brisket (a tough meat to prepare properly) is slowly and carefully braised producing tender and succulent slices that are piled high on a rye bun. It is topped with melted brie cheese and a horseradish mayo dressing. The coking technique leaves the brisket as an extremely flavorful meat. Even the rye roll has a great rye flavor. All too often I see rye seeds in breads and rolls that are without taste.

Korean food is definitely becoming more popular in all parts of the country, almost a trend! Chicago has a special Korean treat from Bill Kim's Belly Shack, nothing at all like New York's Shake Shack!

Chicago's Belly Shack has an extremely unique menu, including a small assortment as what they refer to as "sammich's". Check out there web site for their complete menu. Also take a look at their photos section for some incredible food photography.

Jeff Rapp of the "I Like To Eat" blog recently visited Belly Shack and reports in:

Wow my belly is full of interesting and complex flavors after my pilgrimage to Bill Kim's latest spot. I don't know too many chefs out there that can make you ponder how each bite was constructed yet be so compelled to keep going until there's nothing left. The menu only has a few options but I don't think that's a detractor. Having only ordered the meatball sandwich and the lemongrass chicken (there were two of us), I would be tempted to return to explore.

Here in Cleveland there has been a controversy for years over which mustard is better, Betram Original Ball Park Mustard or The Authentic Stadium Mustard.

Some people can't tell them apart, and other people are fanatical that one test better than the others. Those that prefer Bertram's are quick to point out that their mustard is the original, and Authentic is a copy cat or the original.

Either way, I think that they both taste great, and maybe that is why both brands can be found in so many places.

In Cleveland, Progressive Field serves The Authentic Stadium Mustard, as does 150 other stadiums and arenas. Bertram's was the mustard of choice at the old (since demolished) Cleveland Stadium.

You have to love the attitude at Ike's Place. An independently owned sandwich show where the name of the owner and the guy behind the counter are often the same. Ike's knows that they make great sandwiches... and they fill a San Francisco niche, a big city, but without many good, honest, local sandwich shops.

Ike's sandwiches are made to order (including the bread) and feature "Dirty Sauce", a house garlic aioli sauce made with numerous herbs, spices, garlic and some super secret ingredients. Dirty Sauce is spread on the top of Ike's sandwiches and baked with the bread, turning it into Dirty Garlic Bread, and then re-spread on the bottoms, for that extra flavor.

With all the talk about Lebron James we were wondering what else is a Cleveland original. Sure, there is the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, sports teams that haven't won a championship in almost forever, cold and snowy winters, and a city stuck between New York and Chicago.

One thing is for sure, Cleveland also has the championship winning corned beef sandwich. With all the famous deli's in New York and Los Angeles many are surprised to learn that a little deli with an unappetizing sounding name has the best corned beef in America. ...
