• Fat Bastard - Ike's Place - San Francisco, CA

    You have to love the attitude at Ike's Place. An independently owned sandwich show where the name of the owner and the guy behind the counter are often the same. Ike's knows that they make great sandwiches... and they fill a San Francisco niche, a big city, but without many good, honest, local sandwich shops.

    Ike's sandwiches are made to order (including the bread) and feature "Dirty Sauce", a house garlic aioli sauce made with numerous herbs, spices, garlic and some super secret ingredients. Dirty Sauce is spread on the top of Ike's sandwiches and baked with the bread, turning it into Dirty Garlic Bread, and then re-spread on the bottoms, for that extra flavor.

    Ike's menu also captures the free spirit nature of this sandwich shop. We are fond of the "Fat Bastard", ham, bacon, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, banana pepper, and EXTRA dirty sauce. Every bite makes the wait in line seem very unimportant! At times I have even been known to request some avocado added to make this my own personal sandwich. Others request the alternative Hella Fat Bastard sandwich which substitutes fried mozzarella sticks for the American Cheese.
    The other sandwiches also feature great names like Spiffy Tiffy, Tony Soprano, Phil-em up's KC BBQ, Hom Momma Huda, Will the Thrill, Backstabber, we're just friends and many more.

    For those of you with HUGE appetites you can order the Superman Challenge which gets you three HUGE sandwiches for just $49.94. Hey, if you ordered them separately it would run you $54.23!

    Ike also features a bunch of veggie and vegan sandwiches! I'm not vegan but I hear the vegan meatball sandwich is pretty great.

    Don't be afraid of the Dirty Sauce, it's recipe is super secret, but it really makes Ike's Sandwiches super special.
