Philadelphia is certainly known by the legendary Philly Cheese Steak. But many locals prefer the sandwich without cheese-whiz!

Johns' Roast Pork has been dishing out this cheese steak alternative for years (since 1930!) and has built up quite a cult following among the locals. The roast pork is totally home made, using only the very best top-choice prime pork, and they bone and remove the meat right in the store!

Make sure to order the large version of the sandwich as the bread experience is a lot better. The small is served on a plain round roll, while the large is served on a more traditional long roll which is a lot tastier. To be official you need to add provolone cheese.

Most roast pork sandwich afficienados prefer broccoli rabe on their sandwich but this is not an option at John's. The broccoli rabe with it's interesting combination of flavor, including garlic, really does enhance this sandwich. But how can you argue with John's success. They have won a James Beard Award for culinary excellence, been voted best pork sandwich by seveal newspapers and magazines and have even won awards for their version of the traditional Philly Cheese Steak.

John's has a complete assortment of great sandwiches starting with breakfast sandwiches. A great place for breakfast and lunch. They close at 3pm so your late night munchies can't be satisfied by this Philly favorite.
