• Brown Hotel - Louisville, KY

In 1926 guests at the Brown Hotel were tiring of their regular late-night supper of ham and eggs. They challenged the chef to create them an alternative, and the Hot Brown Sandwich was born.

The Hot Brown is an open faced sandwich, some might say it is a casserole, that contains sliced turkey and bacon that is covered in Mornay sauce and then baked or broiled until the bread is crisp and the sauce begins to turn brown.

This is one sandwich you won't be picking up to eat. The Hot Brown is now available at a wide variety of restaurants throughout the country and has been mofified to each chef's liking.

But, the original may still be the very best, so if you have the opportunity to be in Louisville be sure to visit the Brown Hotel and get the "original" Hot Brown Sandwich, just don't have your cholestrol checked too soon afterward.
