Using my handy GPS I made it over to Los Reyes de la Torta! I believe I was the only English speaking person in the restaurant, so was optimistic I would be getting the "real deal."
The menu is in Spanish, but has lots of pictures. I keyed in on the house specialty, the "Torta Del Ray." This gastronomic ecstasy of a sandwich is filled with breaded beef, pork, ham, chorizo, cheese, and then topped with avocado, beans, tomatoes, onions, and jalapeno, and for the ultimate final touch a fried egg.
If the internals of this sandwich weren't enough it was all loaded into a Mexican bread called telera. Wow!
It looked intimidating but after one bite I immediately recognized that this was truly an orgasmic experience. The combination of flavor, texture and color were outstanding.
The restaurant is attached to a juice bar, and any of the aguos frescas make a great accompaniment to the torta.
The sandwich is certainly large enough to share with at least one or maybe even two of your closest friends.
The other times I visited I wanted to order something else, since everything I saw being served looked great. But, I just couldn't tear myself away from the specialty of the house.
A great sandwich for locals and tourists! Extremely casual.
